Fitness center safety tips

Updated December 23, 2009

Do crooks get more from your workout than you do? Don't make it easy for thieves to make you their next victim. Follow these simple fitness center safety tips:

  • Never take purses, wallets or credit cards to the gym, if possible.
  • If you are unable to leave valuables at home, make sure that you lock them in the trunk before arriving at the gym, and never in the parking lot. This does not necessarily mean that the property will be safe, but at the very least, you will be protecting these items from being seen by passersby. Unfortunately, if you own a van, pick-up truck or an SUV, you do not have this option available to you.
  • Carry your driver’s license, keys and a small amount of cash with you to the gym. These items can be easily carried and will remain secure in your immediate possession.
  • Never, ever, ever take large sums of cash to the gym and leave in your car or locker.
  • Never leave your keys unattended or place them on the floor while working out in the gym (thieves can steal the keys as the owners are working out).
